Creating Your Dream Nursery
Ready to get started on that nursery you've been dreaming about for your child? Here are a few tips to keep in mind.
Your second trimester is a good time to start planning your nursery. Usually, morning sickness will have disappeared by then, and you will feel more up to the task.
Put together a nursery ideas file or notebook. Look through magazines and books. Clip or copy pictures of nurseries that appeal to you. Don’t be surprised if your preferences in furniture styles and finishes, themes, and colors change over time.
Evaluate the room you plan to use as your nursery. Are you changing the flooring? If not, take it into account for a color scheme for the room, although you can always add a large area rug if it doesn’t work with your color preference. What color is your trim? Consider whether this will make a difference when choosing the finish of your nursery furniture.
Measure your room. Draw it out on graph paper. One square equals one foot. Make sure you include doors, windows, and closet locations and sizes. Make note of the height of all window sills. Take this with you when you shop.
